I’m Suranjani, and I’m excited to share my journey with you – a journey filled with passion, dedication, and a deep commitment to empowering marginalized communities in Sri Lanka through the transformative power of education and healthcare.

It all began in 2009, during a visit to Las Vegas, USA. I had the privilege of meeting Dr. Dawn McClellan, the founder of Dental Care International (DCI), through a dear family friend, the late Dr. Rajah Nalliah, who was a board member of DCI at the time. Dr. Dawn invited me to assist in setting up a Dental Surgery Assistant Program for young girls from Children’s Homes in Sri Lanka. Recognizing the immense opportunity to make a difference, I eagerly embraced the project.

Since November 2009, I’ve been deeply involved with DCI Sri Lanka, serving as President and overseeing the operations of the Dental Nursing Program. My role involves liaising with regulatory authorities, Children’s Homes, and various institutions to ensure the program’s success. One of my favorite moments is the graduation day ceremonies, where I witness the transformation of timid students into confident Dental Surgery Assistants.

But my commitment to service goes beyond DCI. I’m actively involved in social welfare work through other non-profit organizations. As the Founder President of Tarana Foundation (a non-profit organization), I lead initiatives in health, education, environment, housing, and livelihood, making a tangible impact on rural and marginalized communities across Sri Lanka.

My journey from corporate finance to community service has been incredibly fulfilling. It’s a testament to the power of stepping outside our comfort zones and embracing opportunities to create positive change in the world.
