Dr. Dawn McClellan graduated from The Ohio State University College of Dentistry in 1990. From 1990-1992 she was a commissioned officer in the United States Public Health Services stationed in North Dakota. Here she lived on the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation providing dental services to Chippewa Indians. She volunteered in a hospital in Kenya, Africa for 6 months in 1993. From 1993-1995 Dr. McClellan completed the specialty program in pediatric dentistry at The Ohio State University. From 1995-1997 she practiced pediatric dentistry in Saudi Arabia. She moved to Las Vegas in 1998 and entered private practice. In 2010, Dr. McClellan left private practice to devote herself full time to non-profit work in Las Vegas and beyond.
In 2001 Dr. McClellan co-founded Dental Care International. DCI is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that provides primary dental care and oral health education in underserved parts of the world. In 2005, Dr. McClellan opened a safety net clinic in Las Vegas. The clinic primarily serves those who have no other access to dental care and does not refuse treatment to children due to their inability to pay for services. Since its inception, DCI has provided over $5,000,000 in charitable dental services.
Since 1987 Dr. McClellan has traveled to all 7 continents and over 70 countries. Dentistry has taken her from an AIDS orphanage in the Bahamas to young soldiers caught in a civil war in Somalia, from children born in refugee camps in Sri Lanka to forgotten urban poor in the ghettos of India, and from isolated tribes in rural western Kenya to the deserts of Saudi Arabia.
Dr. McClellan is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. She is a member of the American Dental Association, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the Nevada Dental Association, and the Nevada Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
